Our Successes
Awaken Consulting Limited (Awaken) works with a range of clients across a number of industry sectors to design, implement and maintain successful solutions to problems. Examples of our work include:
- Working for the largest Oil Major owned/operated shipping tanker fleet Awaken supported the development of process safety and asset integrity major hazard bow ties using THESIS® software. This included facilitating all HAZID exercises, QA / QC on output and the development of global implementation and training materials.
- Awaken project managed the update of the global health, safety, environment, security and social performance competence framework for in excess of 3,500 staff within one of the worlds largest Oil Majors. The final framework was benchmarked against international competence standards and supported by comprehensive implementation and end-user documentation.
- Working with the largest UK P&I Club, Awaken updated and revised the major accident hazard bowties using BowTie XP® software. The bowtie scenarios covered those high value occurrences and claims most frequently encountered in the global shipping industry. The output will be used by the P&I Club representatives in their assessment of ship board practices and with the ship owners to raise awareness and levels of control.
- Working for one of the UK’s largest providers of management training. Awaken provides resources to deliver a global risk based technical auditing course for one of the world’s largest multi-national. This includes consultancy on the design and content of the course, provision of expert trainers and role play in support of an inter-active case study.
- Support for the development and delivery of management development programmes to one of Europe’s largest providers of defence, security and aerospace systems. This included the use of tools to change culture and behaviour across the leadership team engaged in a strategic procurement programme of national importance.
- Working on the world’s largest gas project, Awaken supported one of the largest Middle East Security contractors in the implementation of health and safety management systems in to security projects designed to enhance performance in a sensitive marine operating environment.
- Working on behalf of a consortium purchasing and upgrading an ex-Soviet block refinery, Awaken identified the requirements for environmental due diligence prior to purchase. Awaken then executed the environmental due diligence audit to the satisfaction of the purchasing consortium and financial backers.
- Awaken provider expert support to the health and safety department of a global drilling team in one of the world’s largest oil majors. This included development of management systems, implementation of global incident reporting and provision of management performance statistics.
- Awaken provided controls expert support for the development of a hazard and risk board game designed to improve risk awareness amongst multi discipline and multi cultural environment and so reduce overall incident rates. This included advice on the entire training package covering questions, answers and game protocols.
- Working in support of a global change team, Awaken advised on the revision of leadership and safety competences for one of the world’s largest oil majors. The changes agreed impacted in excess of 20,000 staff globally and required development of new competence profiles, specifications, provision of e-learning packages and the project management of IT records migration.
- Awaken developed and delivered a health and safety competence training package globally to 300+ staff in global shipping and trading organisation. This included delivery of face to face training packages and construction and marking of test papers to confirm final competence assessment post training.
- Working with one of the worlds largest providers of IT consultancy and solutions, Awaken helped develop an IT strategy and business case for the implementation of a global incident management system. This system is capable of supporting incident reporting and assurance provision for in excess of 100,000 staff and 200,000 contractors.

- Awaken provided resources for the facilitation of global interventions to confirm business needs and gain the support necessary for the implementation of a standardised global incident reporting package. This was designed to rationalise 30+ reporting applications down to 1 global platform. Awaken evaluated and reviewed, across the entire organisation a range of solutions then engaged 7 business divisions in design, testing and implementation for both the client and its global and local contractors.
- On behalf of the Oil companies European Association for environment and safety in refineries and distribution Awaken compiled annual performance reports for health and safety. This covered the recovery of data for 35+ companies across the European Union and the compilation of multiple performance reports.
- Awaken provides expert auditors for the execution of site audits and reviews on marine and facility technical integrity as well as operational health and safety performance and compliance. Conducted on behalf of a global trading organisation the audits have to date been executed in South East Asia, The Caribbean, Europe and North Africa.
- Following a review of major incidents Awaken were commissioned to execute an audit on supervisory practices and standards for a west African oil and gas provider. Due to the prevailing security situation the audit was executed through the provision of local on site resources an international auditors working remotely to complete the audit in extremely difficult operating conditions.
- Awaken implemented performance indicators and energy management plans into offshore gas platforms and onshore processing facilities in South East Asia and Central Africa. Included in the implementation was compliance to ISO14064 and the design and development of remote monitoring solutions to demonstrate real time performance improvements.
- Awaken were invited by the US Environmental Protection Agency to speak at their annual Environmental Performance awards in Chicago. The subject of the presentation was “How Environmental Performance Indicators Deliver Real Business Value”. The presentation was attended by national champions in the US Environmental Performance Track initiative.
- Working in conjunction with one of our international partners, Awaken developed a proposal for the United Nations on the design and delivery of road transportation safety management systems fit for use in third world contracting environments.
- Awaken evaluated and reviewed, across the entire down stream organisation of a global oil major, a range of software solutions for global incident reporting requirements. Awaken then engaged the 7 business divisions in design, testing and implementation so as to provide a global solution for incident management for both the oil major and it global and local contractors.
- Being instructed to project manage the development and implementation of process and departmental performance improvement metrics for the UK's largest insurance company when merging businesses. This mandate required installing processes for individual technical specialists through to procedures for high volume call centres.
- For one of the UK's largest clearing banks Awaken designed and delivered a range of training interventions for front line management to improve their process, resource and information management capabilities.
- Under very tight client time scales Awaken implemented, for new ventures in North Africa and parts of the Russian Federation, company-wide risk management systems to corporate, international and industry standards.
- Awaken has successfully mentored the management teams of a major UK provider of not for profit health care through a period of constructive review of its funding and operational processes.
- Working with an Asian energy start up and separately with a West African national oil company Awaken supported work to design, write and implement health, safety and environmental (HSE) management systems over sites as diverse as single pumping stations to country wide logistical operations. Tasks have included the project management of teams of HSE consultants working over multiple sites and projects, the designing and writing of corporate HSE systems and working with front line staff to achieve external certification of their systems.
- Front line staff for one of the UK's largest newsprint groups were introduced by Awaken to the principles of hazard management, risk assessment and legal obligations for managing health & safety.
- Awaken worked with one of the UK's largest out of town retailers to improve front line managers personal time management and business prioritisation skills. These skills included operational awareness, monitoring, measurement and effective implementation of actions.
